Darwin Dilettantes

Dilettante n. Lover of the fine arts; amateur; one who toys with subject or studies it without seriousness.

Darwin Dilettantes hail from the capital city of the Northern Territory. Australia and are the touring arm of the famous Darwin Cricket Club, one of the city's most successful Clubs. Darwin has been touring for many years all over the world and this will be the 32nd occasion that Darwin has played in the Chiang Mai Sixes.

This year we are again joined by a strong contingent from Stanthorpe, in the Granite Belt of Queensland.

Our 2025 team thanks our sponsors - Darwin Cricket Club, Anthony Marino Floorcoverings, Dan's Contracting Solutions and OMG Bar Chiang Mai.

Darwin Dilettantes Players

  • Andrew "Beans" Strangways

Dilettante Player # 88, Debut: 2023, Tours: 2 The most decorated tour virgin in history in 2023; broke the Beavers skulling board in 2024 - has been rewarded with our Fines Master role!

  • Andrew "Big Bird" Einam

Dilettante Player # 87, Debut: 2023, Tours: 2 Mum packs his bags and was last seen getting fitted for Beavers Blazer at the Zoom Bar!! Accompanied by wife Inthira and daughter Fi

  • Anthony Coup

Debut: 2000, Player #43, Dilettante tours 3, Shirt #4 Wears the skirt on tour. Dilettante's Chief BBQ'er...don't be non-striker. Be ready for the very very very quick single. Could cost you a finals spot if leaning on your bat.

  • Anthony Marino

Debut: 2024, Player #92, Tours 1, nominated team shooter taker, loves a stroll in the early hours, just has to work out whether he turns left or right to get home (Has Grab & Bolt on speed dial).

  • Chris Pargeter

Debut: 2024, Player #89, Tours 1 - can lay claim to being the only regular Darwin CC player in this year's Dilettantes. Continues to launch slow hand grenades at opposition batters in the hope of getting them caught be non-existent fielders in the deep. Also doubles as Darwin CC money-man, looking forward to his eyes popping again at the post Stuffed Beaver's match fines session 5555555. Accompanied this year by wife and child.

  • Danny Folkers

Debut: 2024, Player #91, Tours 1 Another of our Stanthorpe contingent, might break his duck this year - tour virgin still.

  • Jamie Carnell

Debut: 2024, Player #90, Tours 1 Erstwhile captain of various Stanthorpe representative teams and a strong on-field performer in 2024. Off field he was our “2 for 1 specials” specialist ;D

  • Troy Harvey

Debut: 2005, Player #55, Dilettante tours 8, Shirt #20 Now the senior Dilettante player, although who knows what could transpire with Khun Loso on the sidelines. One of the many Dilettantes to join us from far flung parts of the globe, Harvs has been seen on the park with Warathais and Yarrambat in his earlier tournaments but has racked up 8 tourneys with the Darwin boys. Athletic in the field and dead eyed with the bat are the attributes that Harvs aspires to but those years are well behind him. Still clobbers the occasional ball but not a keen runner between wickets or when he has the gloves on :) Accompanied by wife Noi and manchild Matthew

  • Coleraine Connection

The Dilettantes will be joined mid week by 3 former players at Chiang Mai Sixes, in Alan “Acka” Spring (Dilettante Player # 64, debut 2009, Tournaments 11), Glen “Pouch” Cameron (Dilettante Player # 61, debut 2009, Tournaments 11) and Simon “Bear” Fry (Dilettante Player # 62, debut 2009, Tournaments 11). Their late arrival will lift alcohol consumption and we believe it is to ensure no late call up for playing duties, although the recent addition of Team 28 may have them a trifle concerned. Our Coleraine connection provided 10 Dilettante players over 2009-2019

  • Gary Hancock

Debut: 1997, Player #39, Tours 19 Another year of hoping not to grace the playing fields will leave Gaz prepared for many long nights exploring the Chiang Mai scene. Accompanied by wife and 2 sons.

  • Greg Bicknell

Dilettante Player # 1 Debut: 1991 Tours: 29 Manager - still definitely a non-player this year after the disgrace as losing captain versus the Stuffed Beavers in 2023. Looking forward to the re-match observing from the side lines. Accompanied by daughter Maree.

  • Jim Ford

Dilettante Player # 13, Debut: 1993, Tours: 9 + umpiring. Jim will also be joining us in Chiang Mai (in a spectating capacity only) for the week. First trip back post COVID.

  • Michael Burns

The Chief - the dulcet tones of Burnsy will ring out across the Gymkhana Club ground again this year, with his commentating adding to the professionalism of the tournament - apart from when he is sledging Harvs!!!
