Darwin Dilettantes

Darwin Dilettantes hail from the capital city of the Northern Territory. Australia and are the touring arm of the Darwin Cricket Club, one of the city's most successful Clubs. Darwin has been touring for many years all over the world and this will be the 33rd occasion that Darwin has played in the Chiang Mai Sixes.

This year we are again joined by a contingent from Stanthorpe, in the Granite Belt of Queensland.

Darwin Dilettantes Players

  • Andrew Einam

Player # 86, Tour #4 Still waiting on delivery of his Beaver's blazer - may have to head down to the tailor himself. Witnessed the Beaver's visit to the Gabba for the Ashes Test in December, we are still waiting on a full & frank report. Known to terrorise opposition batsmen at the Sixes Opening Party, they generally reover from their stage fright on seeing his first delivery. Accompanied by wife Ad and daughter Fi - obviously good sporting genes run in the family, she is a gun at umpteen different sports.

  • Andrew Strangways

Player # 87 Tour #4 Our apprentice Fines Master, still on the pathway to journeyman status. Some put that down to his propensity to daytime dreaming of reducing his golf handicap but we still hold out hope that he can take the reins and knock team behaviour into shape.

  • Anthony Coup

Player #40 Tour #5 Coupy first toured with the Dilettantes in 2000 before a 21 year break, the virtuoso of the Holy hand grenade of Antioch has proved age won't weary him - just slow his pace remarkably. Accompanied by wife Lisa, Coupy is chief bbq'er and skirt wearer of the group.

  • Chris Fforde

Player #93 Tour #1 - VIRGIN Ffordey has been threatening to grace the hallowed fields of Chiang Mai for a few years, great to see him and wife Jamie here this year. Jamie's only question about Chiang Mai - do we need malaria tablets for a jungle trek - should be ringing alarm bells for Chris!!

  • Chris Pargeter

Player #89 Tour #3 Look out - Pargey travelling sans wifey this trip! Co-holder with Coupy of the secret to the Holy hand grenade of Antioch, is able to land his high-arcing deliveries with unerring accuracy. Whether he can do this after several nights out enjoying some convivial ales in Chiang Mai remains to be seen.

  • Danny Folkers

Player #91 Tour #3 The unflappable immediate past President of Stanthorpe & District Cricket Association, Danny is always a welcome addition to our group. Rumours abound regarding the lure of Thailand for Bald Eagle, after the dusty climes of Stanthorpe he often requires oiling up while in Chiang Mai. Favourite song "slip sliding away"?

  • Gary Hancock

Player #30 Tour #21 The rumour mills have been working overtime, churning out, and going into overdrive with intense speculation and gossip, that Gaz (aka Loso) may be coming in off the long run this year. Has been spotted turning the arm over at Under 11's practice - plenty of chin music for his young bloke Ryker. Also travelling sans family this year - not expected to impact his normal behaviour at all 5555555

  • Greg Bicknell

Player #1 Tour #31 Another of our group travelling sans family this year. As Fines Master (until Beans gets the hang of it) he is looking forward to overflowing coffers this year. The early start to game 1 for the Dilettantes followed by the Ashes in game 3 offer unlimited scope for misdemeanors by the group.

  • Troy Harvey

Player #55 Tour #22 This is Harvs 10th tourney with the Dilettantes and he has become a mainstay, taking on the on-field leadership over the past few years. Always happy to hand over the reins to Beans for the Beavers' Ashes match tho. Accompanied by Noi & Manchild, the jungle drums have been beating with the news that he might be off the leash for the first few days!!

Darwin Dilettantes Supporters

  • Coleraine Boys

The Dilettantes will be joined mid week by 3 former players at Chiang Mai Sixes, in Alan “Acka” Spring (Dilettante Player #56, debut 2009, Tournaments 13), Glen “Pouch” Cameron (Dilettante Player # 57, debut 2009, Tournaments 13) and Mark "Walter" Staude (Dilettante Player # 61, debut 2009, Tournaments 11). Walter, back to celebrate his birthday at Number One Bar, is the teams dance instructor.

  • Darwin the Dilettante

    Mascot #1, tours - umpteen!

  • Jamie Fforde

Supporter #126 Tour # - VIRGIN The esteemed Treasurer of the Darwin Cricket Club, her effervescent personality will lift the team to greater heights around the various drinking establishments of Chiang Mai. Deparately seeking knowledge of a cocktail that repels mozzies before her jungle trekking experience.

  • Jim Ford

Player #13 Tour #24 Jostling Jimmy will be holding sway at various drinking holes around Chiang Mai during the week.

  • Lisa Coup

Supporter #114 Tour #4 The magician of the printing/design world, kindly provides our coolers, drink bottles, etc and keeps Coupy on a short tether (until that magical moment when her umpteenth cocktail is partaken and Coupy has to take the lead!)

  • Mrs & Master Harvey

Harve's wife Noi (Supporter #48 Tour #8) and son Manchild (Supporter #104 Tour #7) have also completed plenty of tours with Yarrambat and Warathais, to become core members of the Chiang Mai fraternity. Noi has taken on the key Logistics Management role again this year, making sure our driver gets us to games on time. This year's highlight will be the "measure off" between parents and son, who has been growing quicker than Jack's beanstalk!
