Margate CC

Margate CC return for Sixes number 7. Defending Bromley Shield Champions after claiming their first silverware since 2017. Finally have managed to get a few younger guys from the Club to come along and for the first time won't be relying on locals to top up the squad. We still have our honorary overseas player in Damo from England playing with us for the 3rd time but he has become a part of our Tasmanian team now and rumours are that the second head is threatening to sprout. Led by the veterans BJ and Clint returning for their 7th and 6th tour respectively, Blakey returns for his second crack at the tournament and we are joined by "tour virgins" Oscar, Joey and Maz. A team that will have a crack on the pitch and have even more of a crack with the drinking afterwards, we look forward to catching up with old friends and making new ones. Warning to all teams playing us ... make sure your livers are cleansed before the trip ... if we can't beat you on the field we will certainly try to beat you in the fines session after the game!

Margate CC Players

  • Alex "DJ Maz" Mazur

Alex ‘Maz’ Mazur is arriving in Thailand for his debut Chiang Mai Sixers tournament. Maz loves spinners and gummies, but not nearly as much as the bar girl Jang he met in Thailand in 2024. Maz’s proudest moment was when he disappeared in an exclusive beach club near Phuket, later being dragged from the bathroom by 3 security guards. Maz is an up and coming DJ who loves waiting several months to be paid. If you are a girl in a bar, expect Maz to eventually approach you and say “snap?” or “drink?”. Maz can hit a long ball and will provide some entertainment in Chiang Mai.

  • Brett "BJ" Johnstone

Brett "BJ" Johnstone is the Clive Lloyd of the Margate cricketing world. A strong disciplined leader, he sets the example and leads his young troops into battle. A Chiang Mai 6's veteran and two-time shield champion BJ certainly has been "around the world" once or twice!!! On the field, he epitomises the elite level athletes that showcase the Chaing Mai 6's year after year. Despite being a proud member of the keeper's union, BJ most certainly is not your stereotypical keeper and is, in fact, one of the nicest and most genuine cricketers around. Off the field, a pilar of the community and hard-working supportive father, he packs that skill set in his tour bag. You will often see him sitting in a quiet corner of the bar, ciggy in one hand, beer in the other, playing the role of "daddy"!!!!

  • Clint "Bingo Ringo" Stewart

Clint “Chew my arm off” Stewart. Better known as Ringo, drinks at a steady pace but can go all night. Been known for waking up next to some less than desirables and needing to remove his arm for a quick getaway. Clint is a Clubman through and through and is more at home in Chiang Mai than Tasmania, as he has been that many times. Boasting two Bromley Shield titles and a player of the finals award, Clint has been to all but one of Margate's visits to Chiang Mai, making him a veteran of the team (with hair that is getting progressively greyer each visit so that he looks the part of grizzled veteran). If you say hello be prepared to have you ear chewed off, but you won't regret meeting one of the kindest men you will ever meet.

  • Damian "Ken Lee" Westwood

After first debuting for Margate in the 2023 tournament, this Pom looked at BJ and thought "who is this fat bastard trying to impersonate a wicketkeeper" only to look in the mirror and realise that he himself had BJ covered by 20kgs. This spurred the man into action, and he returned in 2024 literally half the man he used to be. After re-introducing him to everyone that had met him the year before but no longer recognised him, Damo settled back into the Margate team and proved a great asset and a constant source of banter. Unable to discuss Australian cricket without using the word "sandpaper" in every second sentence, Damo loves to stir the pot and loves a good "fines" session (despite jeopardising our great friendship with the Lords Taverners during one heavy session!). Goes by the nickname "Damo" but also gets called many other names such as "Pom", "Cum Breath" (you can ask him about that one) and even "Daddy" by some girls in Phuket. There are other names as well, but they can't be written here! Does keep wicket for the England over 40s team but is relegated to bowling here so BJ can keep, not due to the fact that BJ is a better keeper (he most certainly is not) but purely that BJ's bowling makes Damo's tripe look acceptable! In all seriousness, a great guy and a welcome addition back to Margate CC for his third tour.

  • Joey "Simples" Dalco

Golf, sex, banana bread ... simple!

Joey Dalco arrives in Thailand for his debut Chiang Mai Sixes tournament. Joey is a simple yet complicated man and loves to study a bit of tape and receive as many throwdowns as the boys will begrudgingly provide him.

A hard hitting yet relatively technically correct batter along with some handy left arm spinners, and you've got a decent package, provided he doesn't completely overthink everything.

He may be the slowest golfer around, but surely, he won't find a way to drag out a 5 over game of cricket. We're certainly looking forward to seeing what Joey can provide for the Mecca on and off the field, I'm sure he'll keep it simple.

  • Michael "Round the World" Blake

Michael 'Round the World' Blake. Our very own big man is back after missing last year's tournament for his 2nd Tour de Chiang Mai, with a big difference. This year he will be accompanied by his lovely wife Tab who is in need of a holiday. Blakey has been putting in the hard yards leading up to this year's 6's, putting in some long sessions no matter the weather grabbing at beer or six at each little bar he walks past, all around the world. Do not let your first impression fool you, while Blakey may look like a big fluffy and cuddly teddy bear, he is far from it. With every drink, a new level of dancing, singing and pool sharking is achieved. But one thing is for sure.........once you meet him, you have a mate and a drinking buddy for life.

  • Oscar "MILF Hunter" Carter

Oscar ‘Roota’ Carter is a simple man, playing his first ever Chiang Mai Sixers tournament. His typical weekend consists of having 23 beers at the Mecca Cricket Club, before heading out with cricket mates for more drinks. Later, you’ll either find Roota passed out on concrete or having "relations" in a park. One thing's for sure, he will always finish his night at the Kebab shop ordering one with extra chilli sauce. Roota loves Russians, used to love MILFs and loves Thailand. Oscar is a handy spinner that will be difficult to get away, provided that he is able to stand up!

  • Tabitha "Bar Tab" Blake

Blakey's (much) better half. Tab will take on the minor role of Team Manager and the very important role of Fines Master. Never one to step down from a drinking challenge, Tab no doubt will leave some so called "hard drinkers" quivering in fear and regretting the day they were born! Making her first Sixes tour to "see what the boys get up to" and "why should they have all the fun", Tabitha enjoys a drink and a laugh and is great company to be around.
