Lord’s Taverners

The Lord's Taverners was founded in 1950 by a group of actors and entertainers whose habit it was to watch the cricket, well refreshed, from the Tavern at the Lord's Cricket Ground in London.

The above statement is from the Lord's Taverners website. It only requires a bit of tweaking to represent the CM branch.......

The Lord's Taverners CM was founded in 1992 by a group of drunks and failed cricketers whose habit it was to watch the cricket, well refreshed, from the bar at the Gymkhana club in Chiangmai.

RIP Big Terry.... going to miss you big fella

Lord’s Taverners Players

  • Al (Cheese) Field

    Dog Type - Pug

    Shirt Number 7

Pugs are often described as a lot of dog in a small space. These sturdy, compact dogs are a part of the American Kennel Club’s Toy group, and are known as the clowns (ie., voice of reason on tour ) of the canine world because they have a great sense of humour ( yeah, ok , let’s go with that ) and like to show off. Originally bread to be a lap dog, the Pug thrives on human companionship (ie., telling a story , usually a tall one ).

  • Chris Dommett

    Dog Type - Giant Schnauzer

    Shirt Number 6

A Giant Schnauzer is not the fabled gentle giant often described, rather a fiercely ( alarmingly ) intelligent, hardworking and loyal beast. This is a big dog with a big personality – the largest of the Schnauzers he has a commanding appearance and rugged build, his stoic demeanor belied by the twinkle in his eye, hinting at his playful nature (once again Zoombar – get ready). Easily trained, you should never let the Giant Schnauzer’s wonderful mind go to waste. Make sure to give him a job; let him find things for you, carry things, perform tricks and show off his obedience ( sounds like excellent team manager material to me fellas )

  • Damian (Nuttsy) O'Hara

    Dog Type – Puli

    Shirt Number 2

Best known for his long, corded coat resembling dreadlocks, the Puli is a hardworking herding dog ( ie., ‘keeper ) and family companion (ie., team man ). Energetic and lively, this moplike dog breed hailing from Hungary appears much larger than he is due to that distinctive coat. Thanks to his self-confidence, the Puli will have no problem being the centre of attention in your home ( ie., out on the ground )

  • Dave (Coonylicious) Cooney

    Dog Type – Saluki

    Shirt Number 68

One of the oldest dog breeds, Salukis were once considered a gift from Allah ( ie., Walts’s mate ). They are fast as the wind (as in, they make a lot of it ) , skinny as a supermodel, and quietly devoted to their people ( ie., always scheming ). A Saluki is easy to groom ( a pointless exercise), challenging to train ( as dumb as a stump ) and to not be trusted off leash ( seriously , not even once, ever)

  • David "The Phantom" Statham

    Dog Type - Afghan hound

    Shirt Number 3

The Afghan hound is elegance personified. This unique, ancient dog breed has an appearance quite unlike any other: dramatic silky coat, exotic face and thin, fashion model build. Known to be both aloof and comical, this hound prefers being inside with family – odd really given the Afghan’s natural hunting instinct prompts him to chase prey ( look out Zoombar ). Despite being naturally calm, they are active dogs needing regular exercise – an adept escape artist, high secure fencing is a must as once loose, he is extremely hard to catch (or even see for that matter ) – these hounds can outrun a horse.

EDIT unfortunately the Phantom is not appearing............

  • Glen (Scratcher) O'Brien

    Dog Type – Bull Mastiff

    Shirt Number 1

The Bullmastiff dog breed is a firm and fearless family guardian (ie., team leader and Taverners royalty ). While standoffish toward strangers ( ie., cripplingly shy ) he’s got a soft spot for his loved ones (ie., the Malakas). He has a short easy-care coat, but he is a drooler.

  • Stuart "Badger" Matthewson

    Dog Type - Bulldog

    Shirt Number 4

What do England, the U.S. Marines, The Lord's Taverners, Yale University, University of Georgia, and dozens of other schools all have in common? The dog they have all chosen to represent their tough, tenacious characters. That dog? Why, it's the Bulldog, of course!

The overall look of the dog should be powerful and vigorous with a short, sturdy (not stout) body and a peculiar rolling gait. One of the distinctive elements of the Bulldog is its loose skin, especially at the head, neck and shoulders. Another distinctive feature is the massive skull. The Bulldog sort of shuffles along in a loose-jointed manner with some sidewise motion, but he should still be able to move freely and with vitality. Especially when bowling his left-arm orthodox pies.

  • Tristram (Rowdy) Fletcher

    Dog Type - Shih Tzu

    Shirt Number 5

His name means Little Lion, but there’s nothing fierce about this dog breed. The Shih Tzu is a lover, not a hunter ( though many a Chiang Mai bar worker may beg to differ ). Bred solely to be a companion, the Shih Tzu is an effectionate , happy, outgoing housedog who loves nothing more than to follow his people from room to room ( ie., ruthlessly abuse his position as club president ). In recent years, however, owners have started taking the Shih Tzu off their laps and into dog sports, training him for obedience ( decorum mostly ), rally and agility ( dancing ) competitions.

  • Dorothy (Dorothy) O'Hara

Dog Type – Portugese Water Dog

The Portuguese Water dog breed once served as crew on fishing trips ( ie., hydration officer ), retrieving lost gear ( following around after Nuttsy ) and herding fish into nets ( getting us all out on the ground ). Today , they are a fun loving companion who still retains the intelligence and love of the water ( not to mention the webbed feet) that made him so valuable to his human family ( ie., the Taverners).

  • Pink Panther

Where the Tav's are, the Panther is..... If not there will be trouble......

  • Shaun (Shreck) Hilton

    Dog Type – Chow Chow

This distinctive looking dog breed has a proud, independent spirit and an agility that some describe as catlike. He can be aloof – if you’re looking for a cuddle buddy, this probably isn’t the best breed for you – and downright suspicious of strangers. But for the right person ( ie. , a Taverner ), he’s a fiercely loyal companion....
