Drifters Players

  • 1. John ‘Wedge’ Langham

Langers has been training for this year’s sixes on the many golf courses around Melbourne, and states that his handicap has come down considerably. We shall see at the Drifters golf day. He will be visiting Pattaya pre-tournament, much to the dismay of the venerable Pike, as it means he will be missing the V.C luncheon (again!) in BKK. Langers has been hard at work, as the Drifters social sec.

  • 2. Dale ‘Stocks’ Stocken

A South African and virgin CM sixes tourist, but a seasoned traveler to Thailand. Stocks is ex-Mitcham CC, and will be reunited with former team mates, Bliks & Beef of the Armadillo’s. Following the cricket in CM, he will be off to play in a beach volleyball tournament in Thailand.

  • 3. Jim ‘Jungle’ Cole

Jim returns to the Drifters for his second tournament. As the Four Elms CC player of the year, he is hoping he can recapture this form in CM. This year Jim has decided to acclimatise for the sixes, with a pre-tournament trip to Hua Hin with Lord Hall et al. Hopefully the acclimatising will just be diving, golfing, and some drinking, but only time will tell.

  • 4. Simon ‘Sensible’ Philbrook

With 20+ Chiang Mai sixes tournaments and into his quinquagenary year, the chairman of Pattaya CC is back for another tournament with the Drifters. Simon’s batting can destroy the opposition but his bowling can destroy his teammates. He can’t wait to get back on the G&T’s with JP, but isn’t sure which team fines session to crash. After being relieved of sourcing the Drifters 2016 shirts, Simon now has one eye on sourcing the trousers. Let’s all hope they are not as tight as those 2015 shirts.

  • 5. Rob ‘Lord’ Hall

Lord Hall returns for another year with the Drifters, and is hoping a relaxing week in Hua Hin will set him up well for another CM sixes tournament. Having received more visitations from Thailand over Christmas & New Year from his diet and fitness trainer, has seen Lord H dieting during the depths of the English winter. Will anyone notice? Whatever way one looks at it, the wheels will come flying off this diet as soon the departure lounge is reached. He seems to be looking forward to the prospect and plans to spend some of his city bonus, which may dry up if Brexit occurs.

  • 6. Jon ‘Venerable’ Pike

The Drifters veteran member returns once more. Recently JP has been spending more time out of the UK, than in it. With all his travels, JP has not been able to identify any possible Drifter potential. He is still shaking following the bill at Le Gavroche, with Lord Hall and Lobby Smith.

  • 7. Bobby ’Wordsmith’ Young

As the Pattaya district pub quiz champion, Bobby returns to the Drifters for his third tournament. It has been rumored that Bobby has been working on his drift, loop and guile, although that’s in the bar. His redesigned bowling action, has been mesmerising opponent’s and scorers in the Bangkok league.

  • 8. Leon Bouter

Leon will be making his Drifters Chiang Mai sixes debut. He is a right-hand bat and slow left-arm orthodox bowler. Leon has played for the Netherlands, including being part of the 1994 ICC trophy squad in Kenya.

  • 9. Gonzalo Bouter

A virgin Drifter and CM sixes tourist. Gonzo is Leon's son, and is a chip off the old shoulder and he even has the same hair do. Gonzo is a slow left arm bowler, and one to watch. The Drifters will be hoping that the father son partnership flourishes.
