Drifters Players

  • Alan ‘Tubby’ Jenner

Talking of retirement, Tubby is permanently on the brink of it. He rarely turned out last summer for Four Elms, for all sorts of unspecified reasons, but was frequently present for after match drinks. He also made his now normal trip to Chiang Mai in September to undertake pre –tournament research, even though he had said that he was not going to make it here in 2013. But he has relented, thankfully, in order to take up his normal slot, as long as he does not fall over any potholes in the meantime.

  • Alex Lorimer

Finally the Drifters youth policy has started to kick in. It’s Alex’s 1st time at the sixes and the ex-London Schools and Kent player, is keen to leave a few ‘impressions’ on his opponents, whether it be on the pitch or at bar !! Being the son of Roddy the Trumpeter, he will have to suffer the indignity of having his father toot his trumpet around Gymkhana whilst trying to ignore the musical jibes.

  • Dave Walker

As the Drifters ‘Man in CM’, Dave is hoping that the Drifters actually get a post midday game. As last year he missed all but one game, due to the Drifters early starts. The Drifters believe the reason for oversleeping must be down to his imported Slumberdown mattress, not the Sangsom and coke !

  • Jon ‘Periquita’ Pike

These days, it seems JP spends more time in Asia than in London. Is this possibly the way of things to come ? This year the Drifters team are hopeful that JP will spend more than a couple of days in Chiang Mai. Also they are wondering whether he has got over his Semi Final G&T Shoulder ? Hopefully this year, another year wiser (and definitely older), he will avoid walking in on the Yarrambat team fines !!

  • Martin Papworth

On the occasions when a Drifter has drifted too far or failed to arrive, Martin has pulled himself away from his sterling sixes work to take on his role as one of the Drifters steadiest bowlers. He has agreed to assume that selfless role again in between his sixes duties which include coaching, Sawasdee cricket, sixes organisation and scoring.

  • Matt Lorimer

The younger of the Lorimer boys and son of Roddy, it is also Matt’s 1st time at the CM sixes. Matt is also an ex-London Schools and Kent player. Matt will also need to ignore his fathers musical jibes whilst out in the middle. It has been heard that Matt is as happy with a beer or a ball in hand, this could be put to the test when Lord Hall calls into Pattaya pre-Chiang Mai !

  • Richard Holt

A very useful all-rounder making his first CM Sixes appearance. However, he did visit CM for a warm up weekend in February with his beloved Pattaya CC to ensure acclimatisation went smoothly. Keep an eye out for some luminous hair and a mannequin’

  • Rob ‘Lord’ Hall

After a successful 2012, in which he was Four Elms’ leading run scorer, as well as wicket keeper, he finally managed to lead his firm’s team to victory in the Chance to Shine sixes in London. Firmly ramming back down Charles Colville’s throat his taunts, in previous year’s losing finals, of being a choker. This led to an excessive intake of pop, forcing him to take stock and go on the wagon for short while. We do not expect it to last, once the Thai trip is underway, since his antics in the first few days at Chiang Mai are always a pleasure to watch.

  • Simon ‘Son of Pike’ Philbrook

Simon is once again playing for his first Chang Mai sixes team, the Drifters. A vastly experienced Chiang Mai Sixes player who’s waist size is now greater than his batting average, even in millimetres! As captain and chairman of Pattaya CC, Simon is hoping to emulate in CM, Pattaya CC’s unbeaten start to the season (at time of writing). When not around the cricket pitch, Simon has known to be seen in Awn’s bar propping up JP, especially following the G&T’s !

  • Taran Persaud

Taran is now living and working in CM. He has been keeping himself busy scoring, playing cricket, as well as keeping up profits in CM bars during the evenings. This year Tags will be found in the scorers box, as he has assumed that duty. As the Drifters only qualified ‘Nurse’, Lord Hall is hopeful Taran will double up as the Drifters first aid person, should when he falls ill once again.
