IOS MALAKAS Hello everyone, we are the Ios Malakas (pronounced “eeoss”, please note ground announcers). We are probably the most cosmopolitan team in the competition with players from several countries including Australia, Netherlands, India, USA and the UK but our spiritual home is the Greek Island of Ios. We are as famous for our post match slammer sessions as for our style of cricket, so we look forward to welcoming you all if you are fortunate enough (or unfortunate, depending on how you look at it) to join us in celebration.

Ios Malakas Players

  • Ben

“Crash Test Dummy” has more scars than an ageing lion. A Dutch wicker keeper is always a gentleman both on and off the field.

  • Boy

“Rusta Man” is our local “Mr Fix it“, has catching hands as good as a boxer with broken fingers!

  • Crunch

The “Novocastrian Wonder” is now living the life of a retiree in Thailand hell bent on reducing his golf handicap. Still fairly mean with the bat & ball.

  • Harry

“Dr Google” who has a knack of having an answer for every topic known to man. The silver fox is always keen for a chat.

  • Lemon

Co-captain and entertainment director. “Lemoni” has the quickest wit in the east and he’s always good for a laugh.

  • Max

“Captain Courageous” is a Chang Mai 6’s legend, known for his off-field antics as much as on-field ones.

  • Mick

“the virgin” a friend introduced by the “duck ladies”. Let’s hope he doesn’t get a visit from them during play!

  • Socrates

The “Golden Greek”, nowadays affectionately known as 50(crates) the philosopher of our team who also loves a massage.

  • Sol

“Mr. Cool” is suave and silky off the field but can still be deadly with a bat in his hand; bowlers beware.

  • Vic

“Rudolph Valentino” is making a return, having impressed everyone with his energy on his first trip to Chiang Mai last year.

  • Wazza

“Fuzzy-Wazzy” is a beer rep with a passion for his product as well as for cricket, is making his annual family pilgrimage to Thailand.

Ios Malakas Supporters

  • AJ

“American John”, the quiet one of our group (who would’ve thought it being an American), loves supporting the Malakas. A real gentleman.

  • FC

Fantastic, C you next Tuesday kind of a bloke, is a long time supporter who makes his presence felt.

  • Monster

A proud Novocastrian is a professional supporter and the elder statesman of our team. He’s making his annual pilgrimage to his beloved Chiang Mai one more time.

  • Sid

Our token Englishman (unfortunately is a late withdrawal this year). Appearances can be deceiving as he’s often the last man standing late at night, which is quite impressive knowing that Malalas. COYI.
