Yarrambat Players

  • “Door” Matt Luton

11th Tour: A veteran who makes the annual pilgrimage a regular feature of his calendar. Has made a number of trips back to the UK this year to get some quality cricket and fitness coaching from Chops on the quiet. A permanent resident of Koh Samui these days, Matt can be found sleeping during the day in preparation for walking the streets of Chiang Mai until very late in the night. Will he find a new bride? Will he get hit by another car? Will he actually make it on the field this year? All to be revealed soon!

  • Bill “Ricky” Laurence

4th tour: Gets his Nickname from a bloke who looks a lot like him. A suave and sophisticated guy who oozes sex appeal – just ask him. Ricky is sure to be on his game both on and off the field as he tackles all before him head on. Tells me that he is on fire at the moment with stellar batting and bowling in his local league – a shy and modest guy. Will be keen to be back in Chiang Mai reliving past glories after an absence of some years.

  • Chris “Lamby” Lamb

1st tour: Yes a virgin! The nephew of Bookend, or Cymbals as he is more affectionately known behind the stumps, Lamby has a lot to life up to to eclipse the always stellar efforts of his uncle. Will no doubt be found scouring the night markets for a bargain and sampling the local delicacies. Rumour has it that he can actually play cricket, but lets see how he goes on a regime of too little sleep and too much alcohol.

  • Daniel “Fabio” Shaw

Captain - 12th Tour: Captain. At the age of 24, has been coming to Chiang Mai now for half his life! A veteran of the tournament and sure to fire up both on and off the field. Big Dan is a strong hitter of the ball and bowls many a maiden over. Has been assigned the job of looking after Cymbals and the new recruits. Watch the team performance wane on the field as the week wears on – but do not expect any let up in the performance at the boundary bar.

  • Gavin "Shawry" Shaw

13th Tour: Will once again be joining the ranks of the deaf and blind by day and Yarrambat at other times. Comes alive as soon as he hears the sound of the first can opening at the boundary bar early in the morning after the first game. Will be looking to keep the boys in check and is sure to start one or two drinking competitions against quality competition as the sun sets each evening. No doubt will run for cover as the pace picks up and leave the younger charges to finish off the chaos that he normally instigates.

  • Kim Shaw

13th tour. A staunch supporter of the Chiang Mai sixes and will be arriving mid week to check on how her charges are doing. Will most likely be found drinking daiquiri’s in the massage chairs with the Lemon, Animal and Hagar during the day and sipping a chardy by night. Looking forward to catching up with the many friends she has met over the years in Chiang Mai.

  • Michael "Chief Clancy Wiggum" Burns

11th tour. Although retired, his gracefulness on the field is a sight to behold and he has been asked to bring the whites in case we need that extra spark on the ground this year. Will be team manager, motivator, function coordinator and fines master as always. With his new role as owner of the Royal Crown Hotel Dudley, has dug deep into his pockets to become an official team sponsor. Looking forward to catching up with Colonel Sanders best friend. Will we see the Chicken dance this year?

  • Rob "Chops" Bernard

7th tour to Chiang Mai and the 4th as a player for the Yarrambat team. A very happy ending last year on more than one front I hear. If his facebook page is anything to go by, he has had a lot of idle time to prepare for his 2013 Chiang Mai campaign. A likeable guy who is easy to warm to, particularly if you have an opportunity to face him out in the centre and hit a few of his pies over the fence. Will be looking for Chops to man up this year in the drinking challenge with the Tokyo boys and deliver some inspiring motivational speeches throughout the course of the week.

  • Russell "Bookend" Lamb

7th tour to Chiang Mai and in peak physical condition as always! Will be travelling without the rest of the cutlets this year so may be a little tired and emotional each morning during the tournament. Has been training hard each Thursday night at the club and will be on fire when the drinking games commence. Let’s hope he wears pads when keeping behind the stumps so that he stops a few extra byes this year.

  • Troy “Harvs” Harvey

15th Tour: Harves has settled down to a blissful married life and, under the watchful eye of Noi, has been very well behaved throughout the year – read that as we have no dirt on him as yet. Has however announced that he is ready for an official Bucks turn (in Bangkok) as he gets married to Noi a 3rd time in 2 years – Did last years’ Bucks turn not count? Or is this another excuse for a night out with the boys on free piss?

  • Wilailak (Noi) and Matthew Harvey

Noi and Matthew will once again be accompanying Troy to Chiang Mai. I’m sure Noi will be looking forward to Chops taking young Matthew under his wing once again and teaching him a few lessons on life. Noi no doubt is back in Thailand to stock up on Thai soap opera reruns and get her fill of Som Tam. Matthew no doubt will be looking forward to streaking across the pitch once again.
