Lao Elephants

Cricket started officially in Lao just over 7 years ago with a mob of keen Beer Lao drinking expats wanting to have a Sunday hit followed by a similar number of beers consumed as balls bowled during the mornings game (We still do). The game has progressed significantly going from a dirt track with a pot holed riddled outfield to a newly built astro turf pitch, net and a well groomed out field set upon fully grown eucalyptus trees. While we have no Lao Nationals in this year’s comp, the growth of the game will see them slowly introduced as we expand!

Lao Elephants Players

  • Alex (XXL) Scholten

So good at cricket they made him secretary of the Vientiane Cricket Association. Keeps wicket because he can’t bowl. Can drink and looks good in pink. First to arrive and last to leave.

  • Cashel (Gleeson) Gleeson

The closest member of our team related to Royalty! Also, probably the only one that excises out of the bunch! In saying that can still hold his own when celebrating a victory with the lads, mainly with the opposition team as I don’t think he has been in a winning team in Vientiane?

  • Dan (RAH) Watt

A life saver in many ways! Never been on the cricket ground with shoes on, always with a beer and smoke in hand! Everyones favourite Aussie Bogan! Many liken him to Glen Maxwell due to his Golf Cart experence and non consistant batting performances!

  • Eshan (Colombo) Sebastian

Known as the Ambassador of Sri Lanka, madly in love with winning, his wife also thinks he does. Amazing talent all around the ground and even better off the field. Likely to be heading to the ground direct from the dance floor! Please pick him up on the way if you see him.

  • Jason (Bluey) Leonard

The Big Blue machines ready to take on the world as he does after returning from the Philippines quiet often. Been a while between games but that doesn’t make a difference!

  • Michael (Simmo) Simcock

Long term resident of the Lao PDR, loves his sport and is thrilled to have been part of the first Lao team participating overseas in the Chiang Mai 6's (10s) Novemeber 2023. Loves a good crack with the bat, gives it all with the ball (where ever it may go), cant catch, just as well that he can chug down a few cold beers!!

  • Prashantha

Gives it all, loves a chat, gets very excited at other peoples score and lets them know! Knows how to use the bat when required! appeals for wickets on every ball includes wides!

  • Rick (Rick) Monaghan

The quiet man with probably the best technique within the club. Successfully won the first duck award for the Lao side competing in November. Loves his cricket, a special talent. Nice guy considering his job is a safety Nazi!

  • Sida

Lives for his cricket, constantly asking when the next game is during finishing the current one!! He has a tournament weight target of 100kg, this is with no cricket gear on and standing on one leg!! Great team player and full of enthusiasm for the wonderful game!!
