Montenegro Bokaneers

Montenegro Bokaneers are very excited to be visiting Thailand in Spring 2026. We have heard great things about Chiang Mai from our friends and regular tourists Paul and Raj. We have played all over Europe and in the UAE but never in Asia. Our name Bokaneers comes from Boka Bay or the Bay of Kotor where we live and the club was founded. Cricket has been played in Montenegro since 2014 and we are the only team in the country, hosting visiting teams throughout the year. We enjoy the social side of touring and hope rather than expect to be competitive on the field! Our squad for this year comprises of an eclectic mix of Brits, Aussies and a Kiwi who spend their time between London, Tallinn, Kotor & Sarajevo.

Montenegro Bokaneers Players

  • Alan Smith

Alan retired from the British Royal Navy to Montenegro and played for the Bokaneers before moving South to Greece. Signed up for a holiday, but we hope to get him on the field of play before the trips out!

  • Andrew Hartridge

Cricket fanatic who will go anywhere for a game. From Sussex, but now based in Montenegro, is the Bokaneers skipper.

  • Ashley Dunster

Sporting gentleman who has been holidaying in Montenegro for 20 years and a regular Bokaneer. Highlight of his cricketing career was facing down and hitting Brett Lee for a boundary in front of his visiting familay from Victoria in the Mediterranean Cricket League! When not timing shots through the covers expect to see him at the bar with a bottle of rose.

  • Darren Ireland

Making his Bokaneers debut in Chiang Mai and why not! Played most of his cricket in recent times on Ice in St Moritz so will have to adapt to the humidity of Thailand quickly.

  • Dave Colwill

Dave is our resident Kiwi now based in the UK. Right Handed Batsman and Wicketkeeper who enjoys running himself and others into the ground (and occasionally out!) inbetween a few big hits along the way.

  • Iain Gordon

Another of the Sussex alumni, who spends plenty of time roaming the Balkans for work and cricket. This crafty Off Spinner is almost always seen sporting the pink colours of Plastics CC who toured Montenegro either side of covid.

  • Ian Giddings

Proud Yorkshireman who played for his hometown of Batley before 10 years in the North Wales League for Gresford as a Bowling All Rounder. Long suffering coach of the Montenegro Rugby League team, his preferred sport, but has come out of cricketing retirement for one last hurrah in Thailand.

  • Matthew Barnes & Michelle Nixon

Matt and Michelle have been at the heart of ex pat life in Montenegro for many years hosting legendary partys at Christmas, New Year, Halloween and summer BBQs and Poker nights. Matt is the Bokaneers most improved cricketer in recent times since turning his hand to leg spin and recently discovering he is a hitter of sixes!

  • Stuart Hook

President of the Estonian Cricket Association and stalwalt of the European Cricket scene. Classy right handed bat from South Australia, now based in Tallinn where he has contributed greatly to the development of cricket in his adopted country.

Montenegro Bokaneers Supporters

  • Paul Lack & Raj Boparai

Chiang Mai regulars who have toured with the Bokaneers in Hamburg and Split recently. The inspiration our trip to Thailand, we wish Blythswood well.
