Gymkhana Ground Update: Friday 8th August 2025

While it is the rainy season here in Thailand, which prevents cricket from being played, it has provided the perfect climate for work to continue on the outfield at the Gymkhana Club Cricket Ground in Chiang Mai.

25m² of Malay grass has been laid under the tree outside the Match Box. The Nuan Noi grass laid on that area in December of last year hasn’t thrived due to it getting no sun, so it has been replacing it with the Malay, which thrives without sun. A further 25m² was laid in the same area. About 100m² in total has been laid in that area.

That will be the last large turf laying as we need the turf to take hold in time to hopefully start playing cricket on the ground in early November, as nature takes its course.

Huge thanks are due to George and Locky, along with our groundsman Serd, for their outstanding efforts and, of course, everyone who has contributed financially or helped at the ground. The ground looks truly magnificent and is a remarkable transformation in less than ten months.
