With the prestigious Chiang Mai Sixes Sawasdee Cup less than 3 weeks away Prem International School's softball cricket squad boarded their school minibuses to embark a tour to play schools who play cricket thanks to the long-standing CMSCA coaching program run by Martin and Puy Papworth.
The tour party first stopped at Sahakorn II School, part of the CMSCA coaching program for 15 years, and played two Sawasdee cricket matches on the school playing field. With honours even after Sahakorn II won the junior match and Prem the senior match, the children gathered together to eat their lunch in the school canteen.
The tour party then headed into the hills to Huay Keaw School to play another pair of matches. Expanded to ten aside to give everyone a chance, the junior match was tied with David Buck himself officiating, and Huai Keaw scored a surprise victory in the senior match by beating Prem by four runs.
An enjoyable day on tour for the children from Prem who were able to experience the hospitality provided by two Thai government schools, and the two Mae On schools will be taking part in the Sixes Sawasdee Cup on 5th March alongside Lanna International School. Junior cricket in Chiang Mai is alive and well thanks to the work of CMSCA and the support of Chiang Mai Lanna CC.
