Lamphun girls qualify for National Youth Games

The northern qualifying tournament for the Sports Authority of Thailand National Youth Games was hosted by Lamphun and held at Royals as Toy Dodd was able to step out of the shadow of husband Chris who was in Sri Lanka to preside over a successful tournament as teams from the north took part in competitions for boys and girls.

The Lamphun boys team had pre-qualified as the defending national champions and the girls team will be joining them as they beat Petchabun in their first match after the girls marked the tragic passing of Phil Hughes by holding a minute's silence.

The girls from Chiang Mai and Lamphun are among the best of their age group in Thailand as they showed by playing together as the Northern Angels and winning the four-team tournament against a side from Malaysia and two other Thai sides.

Lamphun girls narrowly lost to Chiang Mai on the Sunday but they will have several more opportunities to play their local rivals as there will be a series of 25-over matches between the two provinces before the National Youth Games are held in Chanthaburi in March 2015.

The girls proudly showed off their medals and will be looking to add to their growing collection next year.
